They showcase the latest trends, techniques, and business insights through high-quality visual content, industry interviews, and photoshoots. Both titles celebrate creativity and professionalism across salons and barbershops, while supporting the community through features, collaborations, and events like the Scottish Hair & Beauty Awards.

When I joined SalonNV and BarberNV, the magazines had a very busy and text-heavy layout that often diluted the impact of the visuals. The challenge was to transform the design into something more contemporary and refined — stripping back unnecessary elements to create a cleaner, more visual style. I aimed to place greater emphasis on large, high-quality imagery and strong typography, allowing each feature to breathe and feel more editorial. This shift towards minimalism not only elevated the overall aesthetic but also improved readability and better reflected the professionalism of the brands.
results.
I redesigned the magazine layouts with a focus on balance, space, and visual storytelling. By introducing a grid-based structure, consistent typography, and a cleaner hierarchy, I created a layout that highlighted imagery as the main focal point. I refined colour palettes and simplified graphic elements to ensure each spread felt cohesive and easy to navigate. Collaboration with photographers and stylists became central to the process, ensuring every visual element contributed to a stronger narrative. The result was a more sophisticated, modern publication that placed quality over quantity and resonated more effectively with its professional audience.
